Orbiq #025 — Mobile release

New on mobile

Keep the
receipt.

Hi there — new Orbiq on iPhone and Android today. Four things worth opening the app for.

01 · Receipts

Snap it, and it stays with the transaction

Photograph a receipt, or attach a PDF, right on the transaction — on your phone and on the web. It's there when the warranty claim, the expense report or the tax question turns up months later.

Location data is removed from the photo before it's stored, the file is checked by its actual contents rather than its name, and nothing is ever public — every view is a fresh, short-lived link issued only to you.

02 · Refunds

Money that comes back stops reading as income

Point a refund at the purchase it reverses and it files itself under that purchase's category. An uncategorized credit used to be read as income — which quietly flattered your savings rate. Orbiq can spot likely matches and put them in your inbox; it will never link them on its own.

The day's header now shows what you spent and what came back as two separate figures, instead of one number that nets them together.

03 · The next 90 days

What's coming, from what you already know

A view of the next 30, 60 or 90 days, built only from things you've already entered: confirmed recurring bills, card statements, scheduled loan payments, recurring income. Nothing is guessed and nothing is predicted.

Whatever couldn't be included is counted on screen, next to the figure. A forecast that quietly drops three unconfirmed bills is a runway you don't have.

04 · Less tapping

Budget one place, and fix ten rows at once

Set a limit on a single merchant, not just a whole category — useful when one shop is the whole problem. And on your phone you can now select several transactions and categorize, tag or delete them together, instead of one at a time.

Also in this release

Recurring bills can be edited after you make them, with a preview of what they'll match; card bills tell you when they're due and stay visible when they're late; OFX and older spreadsheet files import straight from your phone; charts can be filtered by description or merchant and grouped by merchant; the transaction list no longer stops loading after 200 rows; and your month now turns over on your own clock rather than our server's, so anything counted “so far this month” stops running a day ahead late in the evening.
